About the getaway

Come join us the first weekend of July for the Vallée d'Ossau's annual Transhumance.

This long-standing tradition is when the local shepherds lead their sheep, cows, and horses up the mountain to spend the summer grazing in higher pastures. And it’s quite the event. Spectators line the streets to watch the parade of animals pass through while the village of Laruns, just 5 minutes from the château, hosts festivities to celebrate the event.

The transhumance is a celebrated local event that truly offers an authentic cultural experience.
